Question 23

Should the classification criteria in the Classification (Publications, Films and Computer Games) Act 1995 (Cth), National Classification Code, Guidelines for the Classification of Publications and Guidelines for the Classification of Films and Computer Games be consolidated?

The strongest response to this question was ‘yes’, and this was associated with the merits of a single unified classification system applicable across media types, as seen with the cluster of terms in the middle of the infograph. The question of how community standards were understood was raised, as a basis for setting classification guidelines and associated legislation, as seen at the top right of the infograph. Inconsistencies in the criteria for computer games as compared to other media was seen as a significant issue by a number of respondents, as seen at the left of the infograph.
