Would co-regulatory models under which industry itself is responsible for classifying content, and government works with industry on a suitable code, be more effective and practical than current arrangements?
Those who favoured greater industry responsibility for classification of media content (on the right of the infograph) linked the ‘yes’ term to other terms such as ‘effective’, ‘practical’ and ‘timely’. Some proposed that such a measure could be combined with a stronger role for government in the management of complaints, as seen with terms clustered in the middle of the infograph. Those who did not favour such a shift (left of the infograph) argued that the process for a government agency is more accountable and transparent. A spread of responses of the sort depicted here indicates that strongly concentrated views were not coming out of the submissions.
