The Hon Justice Murray Wilcox AO QC was Acting Chairman of the ALRC from September 1984 to 1985. He was also appointed Judge of the Federal Court of Australia in May 1994 after a distinguished career at the New South Wales Bar.
Justice Wilcox was a full time member of the ALRC in 1976 and 1977, and a part time member in 1978 and 1979. He led the inquiries into Unfair publication: Defamation and Privacy (ALRC Report 11) and Lands Acquisition and Compensation (ALRC Report 14).
He was elected President of the Australian Conservation Foundation and President of the Environmental Law Association of New South Wales. He was also Procurator of the Presbyterian Church in NSW from 1974 to 1977.
