Submissions deadline extended!

Last Friday the ALRC released the Issues Paper for this Inquiry, Equality, Capacity and Disability in Commonwealth Laws (IP 44).

The ALRC has heard concerns from several stakeholders that the original deadline of 16 December for submissions to the Issues Paper will be very difficult to meet, given the time of year. We have reconsidered our inquiry schedule and have decided to extend this deadline by four weeks to Monday 20 January. We recognise that over the Christmas and New Year period, people may be on leave and finalising submissions and getting approvals could be difficult. It is really important that we hear from you to assist our thinking in developing our proposals, and we want to ensure that people have the time to prepare their submissions.

Given the tight timeframe for this Inquiry and its complexity, the ALRC will need to receive submissions by this new deadline so that full consideration can be given to them in the lead up to the release of the Discussion Paper in April 2014. The ALRC will gratefully receive any submissions that are submitted prior to the deadline, as we begin our analysis of stakeholder views and issues as soon as we receive submissions.

We would really appreciate it if you could let your networks know of this extension to the deadline for submissions.

Don’t forget the ALRC has produced an Easy English version of the Issues Paper and we would be very grateful if you could distribute this through your networks too. We are very keen to hear from people with disability on the legal issues that concern them.

The ALRC takes this opportunity to wish all our stakeholders the very best for the New Year and we look forward to engaging with you on this very important Inquiry.
