Accessibility

Commonwealth departments and agencies are required by the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 to ensure that online information and services are accessible by people with disabilities.

The Australian Law Reform Commission website has undergone significant redesign in order to meet the Government Online standards that relate to access for people with disabilities.

The redesign work has drawn on the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). For complete accessibility guidelines see the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines published by W3C.

Some of the information at this site is in PDF (Portable Document Format). Where possible, the information has been supplied in RTF format as an alternative.

You need Adobe® Acrobat® Reader 4.0 or later to view the PDF file. Acrobat Reader is available as a free download from the Adobe Web site.

People with visual disabilities who use adoptive technology for screen reading may access some PDF documents on this site by using Adobe Access.

A number of past Australian Law Reform Commission reports have been posted on this website in PDF format. These PDF files have been generated by scanning printed pages. The Australian Law Reform Commission understands these documents may be inaccessible to some users.

ASCII (text only) versions have been provided for users who may find the PDF document unsuitable. Please note, the ASCII versions have been prepared using optical recognition software, and may contain errors that do not appear in the original printed versions. Some tables and graphs also may not be accurately reproduced.

If there is data you require and it is in a format that you cannot access, or if you experience any other accessibility difficulties, you should contact the webmaster by emailing web@alrc.gov.au or by writing to:
