16 January 2004 Discussion / Consultation Paper

Protecting Classified and Security Sensitive Information (DP 67), which inlcuded proposals for reform, was released in January 2004, the second of two consultation documents produced during the inquiry.

In July 2003, the ALRC released background paper BP 8, which outlined the issues under consideration.

16 July 2003 Issues / Background Paper

The ALRC released an Issues Paper, Gene Patenting and Human Health (IP 27) in July 2003, which defined the scope of the inquiry and outlined questions for discussion.

30 May 2003 Final Report

ALRC Report 96 (tabled May 2003)  was the product of a two-year inquiry by the ALRC and the Australian Health Ethics Committee (AHEC) of the NHMRC, involving extensive research and widespread public consultation.

13 March 2003 Final Report

ALRC Report 95 was in tabled March 2003. The ALRC's task was to consider the many disparate federal regulatory and penalties schemes that had developed over the last three decades or so to identify those areas where the injection of some structure could give them, both collectively and individually, greater clarity, transparency and consistency.

16 November 2001 Issues / Background Paper

The release in November 2001 of the inquiry's Issues Paper—Protection of Human Genetic Information (IP 26)—signalled the start of extensive national consultations, which included public meetings in every State and Territory capital, as well as in several regional centres.

ALRC Report 91 (tabled May 2001) sets out the results of the Commission's research and consultations, and its recommendations for amendments to the Marine Insurance Act 1909 (Cth) (MIA) and to the Insurance Contracts Act 1984 (Cth) (ICA).

25 February 2000 Final Report

ALRC Report 89 (tabled 17 February 2000) represents the culmination of a major four year inquiry, which commenced with terms of reference directing the Commission to consider 'the need for a simpler, cheaper and more accessible legal system'.

19 July 1999 Discussion / Consultation Paper

Following a series of consultation, background and issues papers, the Commission released a major Discussion Paper, Review of the Federal Civil Justice System (DP 62) in 1999.

30 June 1999 Final Report

Final Report, ALRC Report 89, was tabled June 1999. The ALRC's review of Australia's confiscation regime found that groundbreaking proceeds of crime legislation—introduced in 1987, and designed to strike at the heart of organised crime by attacking the profit motive—had become largely ineffective.
