Integrity: but not by trust alone (ALRC 82)

The Australian Law Reform Commission initially received a reference in March 1995 to inquire into and report on the Complaints (Australian Federal Police) Act 1981 (Cth) and the complaints and disciplinary system of the Australian Federal Police (AFP).

In July 1995 the reference was extended to inquire into and report on the complaints and disciplinary system of the National Crime Authority (NCA).

An Issues Paper (IP 16) and a Draft Recommendations Paper (DRP 2) - both titled Complaints Against the AFP and NCA - were released in 1995 and 1996 respectively.

The inquiry was completed with the tabling of the final report, Integrity: But Not By Trust Alone (ALRC 82) in federal parliament on 10 December 1996.

The recommendations of ALRC 82 have been substantially implemented.
