Continuing issues

In June 1999 the Commonwealth Ombudsman completed a self-initiated report, Needs to Know, reviewing the operation of the FOI Act. In this report, the Ombudsman called for several of the recommendations in ALRC 77 to be implemented.

On 24 September 2007, the ALRC received Terms of Reference from the Attorney-General of Australia to inquire into FOI laws and practices across Australia. Click here for further information.

On 22 July 2008, the Attorney-General informed the ALRC that the FOI inquiry was being suspended as part of the FOI reform process announced by the Federal Government.
