Designs (ALRC 74)

The Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) began its review of Australia's design laws with a reference from the Commonwealth Attorney-General on 18 August 1992.

Two consultation papers, both carrying the title Designs, were released during the course of the inquiry - an Issues Paper (IP 11) in 1993 and a Discussion Paper (DP 58) in 1994.

The final report was tabled in federal parliament on 31 August 1995.

The Designs Act 2003 (Cth), which commenced operation on 17 June 2004, substantially implements the recommendations of ALRC 74.
