Beyond the Doorkeeper - Standing to Sue for Public Remedies (ALRC 78) and
Standing in Public Interest Litigation (ALRC 27)

The Australian Law Reform Commission first considered the issue of standing in public interest litigation in its 1985 report Standing in Public Interest Litigation (ALRC 27). That inquiry began in February 1977 and concluded with the tabling of ALRC 27 in federal parliament in November 1985.

Beyond the Doorkeeper - Standing to Sue for Public Remedies (ALRC 78) built on the research, consultations and findings of ALRC 27 concerning standing. The reference was officially received in May 1995 and the final report was tabled one year later, in May 1996.

Neither of these reports has been implemented.
