Insurance Agents and Brokers (ALRC 16) and
Insurance Contracts (ALRC 20)
In September 1976, the Australian Law Reform Commission was asked to investigate the laws surrounding insurance contacts.
The inquiry was conducted in two parts. The first addressed contractual issues and the second covered miscellaneous insurance issues.
An Issues Paper (IP 2) and a Discussion Paper (DP 7), both titled Insurance Contracts, were released in 1977 and 1979 respectively.
The first report, Insurance Agents and Brokers (ALRC 16), was tabled in September 1980.
The second report, Insurance Contracts (ALRC 20), was tabled in December 1982.
There has been substantial implementation of the recommendations of both ALRC 16 and ALRC 20.
