Timetable for the Inquiry
The ALRC will undertake extensive community consultation, and plans to release two consultation papers as part of this Inquiry. These consultation papers will be free and available online, in hard copy format and on CD.

| August–November 2008 | Preliminary research and initial community consultations. |
| December 2008 | Release of Issues Paper 34. |
| December 2008–May 2009 | Consultations on Issues Paper 34. |
| 19 February 2009 | Closing date for submissions to Issues Paper 34 |
| May 2009 | Release of Discussion Paper 74. |
| May–September 2009 | Consultations on Discussion Paper 74. |
| 31 October 2009 | Final report and recommendations due to be delivered to the Attorney-General. |
Please note: the report will not be publicly available until it is tabled in Parliament. |
