Contribute to the Family Violence Inquiry
Any public contribution to an inquiry is called a submission and these are actively sought by the ALRC from a broad cross section of the community. Submissions are usually written, but there is no set format and they need not be formal documents. It would be helpful if comments addressed specific questions or paragraphs in a particular consultation paper. Where possible, submissions in electronic format are preferred.
With this inquiry the ALRC has developed new ways for stakeholders to make submissions and informal contributions:
- We strongly encourage stakeholders to use the ALRC online submission form to complete a guided question-by-question submission. [This site closed on 25 June 2010.]
- Join the Family Violence Inquiry Blog to make comments and discuss questions and proposals in a public arena.
- Write a submission and email or post it to the ALRC the questions
- Email. We recommend placing a "request receipt" command on your email so that you know it has reached us.
- Mail. Post your submission to:
The Executive Director
Australian Law Reform Commission
GPO Box 3708
Sydney NSW 2001
- Submit general comments using the online comment box.
N.B The ALRC will email an acknowledgment of your submission within 24hrs of receipt. If you do not receive this confirmation, please contact the ALRC to ensure the submission has been received.
Further information is available in the ‘Making submissions’ section of our website.
Before you start, you may wish to review the Terms of Reference and the general summary of the Inquiry.
Your comments to the Inquiry may remain anonymous, if you wish.
However, if you wish to have your comments treated as a formal submission, then you must provide us with your name and contact details. You can also choose whether you would like to receive regular updates on the progress of the Family Violence Inquiry via email, and whether you would like to receive free copies of consultation documents as they are released.
In the absence of a clear indication that a submission is intended to be confidential, the ALRC will treat the submission as non-confidential.
Please refer to the ALRC's open inquiry policy for further information.
